Artist-in-House (AH+) uniquely combines the ideas of studio and home from an artist’s perspective, and in doing so discriminates itself from conventional artist-in-residencies.
Integrating studio and home into an architectural manifestation of an artist’s relation to the world through living and artmaking, AH+ aims to share lived experiences of creative processes in the form of a house. It is artists that enliven the house and leave traces of living and artmaking. Unlike museums and galleries where the final products are exhibited to an audience, AH+ accommodates the nature of artmaking: the moments before it shapes anything, the transient states that seek but escape from meanings, chaos and order, abandonments, and potentials; what remains unknown to outsiders.
AH+ is dedicated for collaboration between Ayano Hattori, the founder and the architectural designer, and other artists from different disciplines and professions, cultural backgrounds, and genders. Such a collaboration aims to produce in-depth dialogue, beyond the conventional forms of art and knowledge, on shared concerns of the world that we live in.
